fishing camping

Back in the day (BC or Before Children), we loved to hit the road on a summer weekend and pitch a tent next to a lake. Car camping is about as adventurous I get when it comes to roughing it and I am craving that chill time again. The issue, of course, is camping with kids… oh the logistics. Camping close to home is ideal the first time out so here are three provincial parks that are located practically IN the GTA!

Bronte Creek Provincial Park

Bronte, located in Oakville, is the perfect starter park for new campers or campers who are shlepping kids for the first time. There is a children’s farm, an outdoor pool, a disc golf course for older kids and a nature centre and five hiking trails. This park does not have a lake so this is a great, safe first camping location for families with very little littles!

Darlington Provincial Park

Darlington, located in Oshawa, has three types of campsites: lakeside (all electrical), cliffside and hilltop so you can figure out which location is best for your family. This is a great camping location for families who like to fish and canoe. There are also four hiking trails, most of which are designated as “easy” so they would be great for those with short little legs!

Sibbald Point Provincial Park

Located on the south shore of Lake Simcoe, this is another park perfect for sporting families. Fishing, boating, hiking and swimming are all available! There is only one hiking trail in this park, but it is marked easy.
